You’ll Starve if You Cleanse!

I invited my friend Tanya, owner of Forage, our best local restaurant in Driggs, Idaho. Tanya and I host the Summer Solstice Fest in the Tetons.

Detox Myth #1:

You’ll starve if you cleanse.

Cleansing is not a fast. Water fasting is so 1900′s. Now, we have blenders. We have juicers. Now, we have evolutionary enlightenment instead of simple austerity practices like not eating.

Cleansing is not a fast. You can have your smoothie and drink it too. You can have your kitchari and eat it too. IMG 10431 224x300 Youll Starve if You Cleanse! You can simply take out all the other stuff.

Plus, most of us are completely out of touch with hunger. We eat too frequently to feel a deeper fire burn. While you won’t starve if you cleanse, (unless you water fast for longer than Moses in the desert), you will ignite a deeper digestion. You need the strong fire to burn the toxins being released from the fabric of your tissue.

Detox Myth #2

Cleansing is all about what you’re eating or not eating.

This one is the kicker for me. Sure, changing your diet is an aspect of a cleanse. Equal aspects are:

  • Emptying your life of what isn’t important anymore.
  • Upgrading your daily rhythms in line with earth-based rhythms.
  • Discovering real energy from plant nutrients (hopefully some local and wild).
  • Waking up your bliss, your potential, and your call to action.
Those are just to name a few. Sure, you’ll totally overhaul and upgrade your kitchen and your body… but more importantly, you’ll ignite your dharma.
